The Inherited Wounds Foundation is a nonprofit educational organization. All content published on this website — including articles, treatment overviews, research summaries, personal stories, and resource guides — is provided for general informational and educational purposes only. It is not intended as, and does not constitute, medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, legal advice, psychological counseling, financial advice, or any other form of professional consultation.

1.2  Not a medical professional

The founders, contributors, writers, and volunteers of the Inherited Wounds Foundation are not licensed physicians, surgeons, nurses, therapists, attorneys, or financial advisors. Nothing on this website creates a doctor-patient, attorney-client, therapist-client, or any other professional relationship between the Foundation and any visitor.

1.3  Consult your physician

1.4  VA benefits & legal information

Information on this website regarding Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits, disability claims, Agent Orange exposure, service-connected conditions, appeals processes, or legal rights is provided for educational awareness only. It may not reflect the most current regulations, eligibility requirements, or legal standards. Consult a VA-accredited claims agent, veterans service organization (VSO), or licensed attorney before making decisions about your benefits or legal rights.

By accessing or using inheritedwounds.org, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and all applicable laws and regulations. If you do not agree with any of these terms, please discontinue use of this website.

2.2  Intellectual property

All original content on this website — including written articles, graphics, logos, and design — is the property of the Inherited Wounds Foundation and is protected by applicable copyright and intellectual property laws. You may share and link to our content for noncommercial educational purposes, provided you credit the Inherited Wounds Foundation and link back to the original page. You may not reproduce, republish, or distribute our content for commercial purposes without written permission.

2.3  Acceptable use

You agree to use this website only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of others. You may not:

  • Use the site to distribute spam, malware, or harmful content

The Inherited Wounds Foundation is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

3.1  Who we are

Inherited Wounds Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to education and advocacy for veterans and their families. For privacy-related questions or requests, contact us.

3.2  What information we collect

Information you provide voluntarily:

  • Name and email address when you sign up for our newsletter

  • Name, email, and message content when you submit our contact form

  • Name, email, and payment details when you make a donation (payment details processed by a secure third-party processor — see Section 3.6)

Information collected automatically:

  • IP address and general geographic location

  • Browser type, device type, and operating system

  • Pages visited, time spent, and referring URLs

  • Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 3.5)

3.3  How we use your information

We use the information we collect only for the following purposes:

  • To respond to your inquiries submitted through our contact form

  • To send you our newsletter and organizational updates (only if you opted in)

  • To process donations securely

  • To analyze website usage and improve our content and user experience

  • To comply with legal obligations

Donations made through this website are processed by a secure, PCI-compliant third-party payment processor. The Inherited Wounds Foundation does not store, see, or have access to your full credit card or banking information. Donor names and contact information are kept strictly confidential and are never sold, rented, or shared with other organizations.

3.7  Data security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including the use of SSL/HTTPS encryption on all pages of this website and limiting staff access to personal data. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected individuals as required by applicable law.

3.8  Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • The right to access the personal information we hold about you

  • The right to correct inaccurate information

  • The right to request deletion of your information

  • The right to opt out of marketing communications at any time

  • California residents (CCPA): the right to know what data is collected, the right to deletion, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights

  • EU/UK residents (GDPR): the right to data portability, the right to restrict processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

3.9  Email communications

We will only add you to our mailing list if you have explicitly opted in. Every email we send will include an unsubscribe link, and you may opt out at any time. In compliance with the CAN-SPAM Act, all emails from the Inherited Wounds Foundation will include our physical mailing address and a functional unsubscribe mechanism. We will honor all unsubscribe requests promptly.

3.10  Children's privacy

This website is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. This is consistent with the requirements of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete that information.

3.11  Data retention

We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe. Contact form submissions are retained for up to two years. Donation records may be retained longer as required for nonprofit accounting and tax compliance.

3.12  Updates to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Your continued use of this website after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
